San Diego has an endless amount of locations that are perfect for family photography. At the top of my list for beach photography, is Scripps Pier. This location hits several of my checklist items as a family photographer, from location to backdrop, to accessibility. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite photos from this adorable family’s session, and highlighting my favorite things about this unique photography spot!
A top priority for me in choosing a photography location for my clients, is its accessibility. I photograph a lot of families with young kids, so finding a location that is easy to get to is a must! Scripps Pier is located in the beautiful San Diego suburb of La Jolla. With a large parking lot and plenty of street parking, families can get in and out of this location fairly easily.
I love giving large client galleries and often choose locations that will give my clients a variety of images and backdrops. Scripps Pier is located near Scripps Institute of Oceanography, which has a beautiful courtyard area overlooking the ocean. From here, it’s just a short walk down to the beach where I can then capture families near the pier. Looking at the photos below, you would never know they were taken at the same location!
Scripps Pier has a large open beach, which is ideal especially during those busy summer months! Whether I’m shooting in the dead of winter or middle of summer, there is plenty of space to move around and capture families without getting lots of photo bombers in the background. 🙂
