SESSION LOCATION

Start to think about your location-do you imagine having your session in the comfort of your own home, or outdoors in nature?

If home, start to think about your spaces

Which spaces have good light?

How can you visibly reduce clutter?

SESSION SPECIFICS

Think about what you want me to capture

Any must-have images?

What's most important to your family for this session?

Are there sentimental swaddles or blankets you want me to capture your baby in?

ON THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION

Yay! The day of your newborn session has arrived! Parents can sometimes feel ultra-stressed on the day of, which is completely understandable. Trying to do anything with a newborn + little sleep can be exhausting!  As a mom of 4 young kids, I completely understand the logistics involved in getting your home and family ready for a photography session. The biggest tip I can give is:  try not to be stressed about the little things. Instead, focus on being present to this time with your family and new addition.

Easier said than done, I know!

My primary goal for your newborn session, is to capture the love and admiration you have for your new addition. This newborn phase is so fleeting, so I'll focus on capturing your connection as a family, tiny toes, sleepy yawns, and big sibling kisses. I don't care whether there are dishes in the sink or toys are scattered across your toddler's room. Be ready to snuggle up with your people and be present to this new season. Do your best to keep the mood calm and relaxed and try not to stress about anyone's behavior.

Tips

  • Your baby is the star of this session! We will stop for diaper changes, nursing sessions, and snuggles. This is all part of the story I want to capture for you.

  • I recommend feeding baby as much as he/she wants up until 15 minutes before I arrive so that he/she is calm and comfortable..

  • Focus any cleaning energy on these spaces: master bed/side table, living room/couch area, nursery.

  • If your master bed comforter is dark or has large patterns, it may not photograph well. A neutral sheet, quilt or comforter will work just fine.

  • Lighter color clothing works best inside.

  • Newborns look great in a simple fitted onesie or romper. A diaper is great too. Make sure we can see their hands and feet!

DURING YOUR SESSION

My sessions are very relaxed and baby-led. I want my newborn sessions to feel like a cozy Saturday morning. When I arrive we will see how baby is (calm, fussy, awake, asleep) and start from there. If baby is relaxed we may begin with portraits of baby alone on your bed or in their crib. If baby is fussy we can start in parents' arms or nursing. There's no right or wrong flow!

If big siblings are having a hard time, try to think about what will bring their attention back to the family and baby. Do they like holding baby's hand? Do they like being sung to or snuggling a parent? Would they listen to you tell them a story? I don't recommend using any media as it can be hard to take away! Instead, focus your attention on engaging them towards their new baby sister or brother.

I can't wait to meet your newest member!

Expect To:

  • Spend 60-90 minutes with me

  • Snuggle, hug, and love on your people

  • Sit and lay on the bed together

  • Sit on the floor of your rooms
