Convincing your teenager or soon-to-be college graduate to get in front of the camera to have professional senior photos taken, may seem like a daunting task to you as a parent. As a mom myself, I get it! My kids may not be teenagers just yet, but it's still a struggle to get them in front of my camera-and it's what I do for a living! I truly believe that having professional senior photos taken is an investment worth taking and today I would love to share with you why.

3 Reasons You Should Have Professional Senior Photos Taken
As a San Diego family, newborn, and wedding photographer, I capture all genres of people. In the fall the majority of my clients are families taking their yearly Christmas card photos. The winter brings more newborn sessions and summer is reserved for weddings. But in the spring, my calendar fills up with high school seniors and college graduates. I look forward to these one-on-one sessions and find them to be so much fun! Hiring a photographer to take professional senior photos taken can seem unnecessary, but I truly believe it's an investment worth making.

Reason #1: Capture Your Senior at This Age/Stage of Life
Graduating from high school or college is an amazing accomplishment and one that should be celebrated. We hire a photographer for our wedding day to commemorate that special moment of becoming one. We often hire a photographer to capture our growing baby bump or our newborn within the first few weeks of life. As our family grows and changes we hire a photographer to document our family in those busy seasons of life. There's something photography does for us-it freezes time so we can savor seasons both now and in the future. Graduation is another season to savor before your child is launched into college or the career world.

Reason #2: Celebrate This Major Milestone in Your Senior's Life
Oftentimes at these sessions, my clients are accompanied by their parents. At some point during their session there comes a time when mom and dad look over at their son or daughter and have a moment of recognizing the woman/man they are becoming. I tell my family session clients to treat their sessions as a "fun family night out." For senior session clients, treat this as a special parent-child date night with your soon-to-be graduate.

Reason #3: Celebrate With Friends
This last reason is for those of you with camera shy teenagers. :) I know teens can be reluctant to get in front of the camera and smile. Having a few friends with you at your senior session is a great way to alleviate nerves, bring out their personality, and have fun!
