Besties in Bloomington

There's something so unique about having a friend that has known you practically your entire life. Someone who has seen you grow and mature, make mistakes as well as succeed, laugh and cry, celebrate and mourn, and continue to pursue a friendship when thousands of miles separate you. These friendships are one you never want to give up on, no matter what season of life you are in or how busy you may be.

I'll never forget sitting in my kindergarten class, nearly 30 years ago, and hearing my teacher talk about the new student that would be joining our class that following week. Her name was Katie. We were all so intrigued as to who this girl might be, who was moving across the country that very minute. Little did I know that not only would I get to know her, but she would become someone who would eventually come to know me inside and out.

Fast forward 25 years, 2000 miles between us and the busiest season of our lives to date-motherhood. I was out on a walk with my baby when my phone rang. It was Katie. After several minutes of casual conversation and catch up, she said something I will never forget. "Desiree. Your friendship means so much to me and I want to get to know you again. I know we are in busy seasons of our lives but I don't want to lose the friendship we have built all these years. I want to be more intentional and become close again." Talk about vulnerability! As an enneagram 2 who lives for relationships, those words meant everything to me. That day was the beginning of becoming best friends all over again.

This past week I took my 2 littlest ones out to Bloomington, Indiana, to visit Katie and her sweet family. We mommed together all day then stayed up until well past midnight catching up over a bottle of wine. Laughter and tears flowed freely as we enjoyed more time together than we had since we were in college. What a gift. And probably one of the greatest gifts I got out of this time together, was capturing her family. This is why I love what I do-I have the ability to create and capture sweet moments among families so they can treasure and remember the season they are in forever. Take a look at some of my favorites below. And of course I had to include some of our daughters-born 1 month apart and quickly becoming besties just like their mamas.
