THE BENEFITS OF A MINI-SESSION | SAN DIEGO FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

WHEN YOU BEGIN LOOKING TO BOOK A FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT, HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED A MINI-SESSION?

Family photoshoots can often be a source of stress for parents, especially those with young kids. Some people take these yearly, to show the growth of their family and kids, and to have beautiful pictures for their holiday cards. But getting each family member onboard can be the hardest part of the whole experience. For this reason, I highly recommend considering a mini-session.

WHAT IS A MINI-SESSION?

Each fall I offer mini-sessions. These are short, 20 minute sessions that allow me to capture multiple families on one evening, during the busiest time of year for photographers. It's a win-win for both me and my clients. I typically have 3 poses I place my families in (yes, I pose, even though I'm a lifestyle photographer :) and I try to get at least 2 different backdrops. This creates variety for my clients and makes their gallery look and feel like a full family session.

WILL A MINI-SESSION GIVE ME ENOUGH FAMILY PHOTOS?

This is the number one question to consider when booking a mini session over a full session. If you are looking for that large 100+ gallery, then no, a mini session won't be enough photos for you. But let's be honest, how many of us actually print out our entire gallery? For me, personally, I typically choose my top 5 favorites, print and frame those, and leave the rest sitting in a folder on my desktop. The aim of a mini-session is to capture the most important images the client will want for the holiday cards and frames. I always capture a handful of family photos, individual shots of the kids, siblings together, mom and dad. It's the same combination as a full session, but just shortened.

WILL A MINI-SESSION ROB YOU OF THE EXPERIENCE OF A FULL SESSION?

How many kids (and dads) enjoy taking photos for 45+ minutes? If your kids are anything like mine, they're DONE in about 10 minutes! My mini-sessions may be quick, but in the short time we are together, we are having fun and interacting with each other. Think of it as a fun family outing, with a nice lady following you around with her camera. :) And before any meltdowns can happen, it's over!

BENEFITS OF A MINI-SESSION

1. More Affordable than a full session

Photographers often offer mini-sessions at a fraction of the price of their full sessions. Photographers who normally have a sitting fee and then sell packages on top of that, will often offer an all-inclusive pricing for their mini-sessions, where you get a set number of images included with the sitting fee.

2. Easier on kiddos

I've already gone over this one, but mini-sessions are catered towards children's attention spans-SHORT-ha! Before a meltdown can even happen, the session is over. Win-win!

3. Just the right amount of photos

With a mini session you typically get a condensed amount of photos, just enough to frame and/or put in your holiday cards. For me, it's less overwhelming than receiving 75-100 photos that you then need to narrow down to your favorites.

If I've convinced you to try out a mini session, I would love to chat about scheduling yours! You can click here to get more information on dates that I have available.
