July to November is typically the busiest time of the year for family photographers. The weather has warmed up and here in San Diego, "May gray and June gloom" are over. As you begin considering having your yearly family photos taken, I wanted to share with you what you can expect from a family session with yours truly. :)
Expect your session to be laid-back.
If there's one thing my family sessions are NOT, it's stiff and posed. I have yet to meet a mom who isn't *slightly* nervous about her kids' behavior. I get it. I'm a mom too and even on the way to our own family sessions I'm prepping my kids on what I expect their behavior to be while we're being photgraphed. However, I can tell you from first-hand experience, the photos you will LOVE and treasure forever, are the ones that capture the most authenticity. And for most families, authenticity means connection, emotion, and movement. I want my families to see their session as a fun family outing, not a posed session where smiles are forced. When you book a session with me you can expect our time together to be fun, casual and laid-back.
Expect to get affectionate with your people.
My entire aim as a family photographer, is to capture the season of life that you're in. I want to capture you kissing your baby's cheeks. I want to capture you snuggling your newborn. I want to capture you playing with your children and throwing your little boy up in the air as he giggles his little heart out. I want to capture you and your spouse's deep affection for one another-reminding each other that this whole crazy ride of parenthood was founded on the love you have for each other. So come ready to love on your people and show your affection for one another, because when love exudes from your images it will make your heart explode and remind you on the hardest of days that it's all worth it.
Expect to have fun.
If your kids are anything like, mine, they need to M-O-V-E. My kids have an attention span of a whopping 30 seconds (if that), so you can expect your session to be full of movement and games. Sure, I'll get those "money shots" where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera, but I'l keep the majority of our time together fun and active, especially if you have little ones.
Expect the unexpected.
If you're anything like me, you come to your family session with a pocket full of expectations. You want a photo of all of your kids smiling and being sweet with each other (don't we all!). You want to capture your husband with the baby who screams when she's not in your arms or your toddler with you even though he won't sit still. These expectations are valid and normal and all of the things I aim to capture for you. However, come ready to be surprised by the unexpected things I capture as well. Your baby's smile. Your toddler's dimples. The way your husband looks at you. So many beautiful precious moments are captured in split seconds they you may not be aware of. Come ready to be pleasantly surprised at the images I produce when you let down your expectations and simply be present.
If you're looking for a laid-back fun family session that captures the authentic love and connection between you and your people, I'd love to chat!
